Firearms and Intimate Partner Violence: Strategies to Enhance Survivor Safety

This presentation will provide an overview of the federal and state firearm laws and how they can be used to enhance survivor safety.
Facilitators
Monica N. Player is the Director of the National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit (NCPOFFC). She provides training and technical assistance on the issuance and enforcement of protection orders, full faith and credit, and federal and state firearm laws related to domestic violence.
Prior to assuming her current position, Ms. Player was an attorney at the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) where she managed the Services*Training *Officers* Prosecutors (STOP TA) Project and provided technical assistance and training to STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program grantees. Previously, Ms. Player was a family law practitioner and managing attorney at the House of Ruth Domestic Violence Legal Clinic in Maryland where she represented survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in divorce, custody, and protection order proceedings.
Sarah Hur, Attorney Advisor, provides training, legal analysis and policy review on local, state, tribal and national issues related to protection orders. She also conducts research and develops materials for allied professionals. Before assuming her current position, Sarah represented survivors of domestic and sexual violence in protection order proceedings. She was also a prosecutor for the New York City Law Department. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and is licensed in New Jersey and New York.
