Are you a new community-based advocate supporting survivors of domestic violence in New Mexico or a seasoned advocate seeking a refresher? NMCADV’s Core Advocacy Training (CAT) is tailored just for you!
This foundational, interactive training provides the essential skills and knowledge to effectively support survivors in a trauma-informed, survivor-centered way. Supported by the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD), this training is open to new advocates across New Mexico.
In this training, you will learn:
● How to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy.
● Strategies to build trust and empower survivors.
● The impact of coercive control, lethality indicators, and systemic barriers.
● Best practices for safety planning and crisis intervention.
Join us for a two-day interactive training designed for community-based advocates in New Mexico! This foundational training, supported by the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD), equips advocates with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy.
This training includes:
Core principles of survivor-centered advocacy
Understanding trauma in our clients & ourselves, coercive control, and lethality indicators
Safety planning and effective crisis intervention
Practical skills for working with diverse survivors and navigating systemic barriers
