Trauma and the Brain: Supporting Children with Trauma

Description

This presentation will introduce the basics of how trauma affects children and will provide suggested adaptations and tools that can be used to support the child with trauma. Topics covered will include: brain basics, window of tolerance, how trauma affects the brain and body, regulation tools, and adaptations for working with a child with trauma.

Objectives

  1. By the end of the training participants will understand the window of tolerance.

  2. By the end of the training participants will have a basic understanding of how trauma affects the body.

  3. By the end of the training participants will understand how to support a child with trauma through the use of tools and adaptations for interacting with the child.

  4. By the end of the training participants will have an understanding of how different regulation tools work and how to help a child with them.
