Children’s Project
In the past it was thought that in providing services to domestic violence survivors, the benefits would naturally impact the children of those survivors. Now we know that the intervention children need is very specific to the child. The Children’s Project is a partnership between NMCADV and CYFD.
The project goals are:
To strengthen the bond between domestic violence survivors and their children
To enhance coping skills and reduce trauma responses in children birth through 18 years of age
Domestic violence advocates in the program assist non-offending parents in:
Understanding and promoting resiliency in their children
Understanding how domestic violence may have impacted their children and their relationship with their children
How to respond to their children’s trauma related behaviors
How to comfort and engage their children in activities that can help rebuild the relationship between parent and child
