Policy Initiatives
The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence supports various policy initiatives and advocates for meaningful change through the work of a regionally elected committee of domestic violence service providers.
The committee solicits statewide input and reviews critical information from across the state and the nation when determining the NMCADV policy agenda for the year.
A few successful past initiatives include a law on strangulation, updating missing persons laws to reflect safety needs of survivors, a confidential address program , administered through the New Mexico Secretary of State’s office, a Coordinated Community Response (CCR) feasibility study, various successful funding initiatives, including projects for building capacity to serve children and protect pets from DV and an introduction of the Safe and Together Model, which helps Protective Service ( PS) workers better understand and respond to domestic violence.
Current and ongoing initiatives are focused around increasing community coordination and protecting pets through DV laws.
