CCBP ONLY: Supporting Children, Parents, and Families Affected by Domestic Violence

CCBP Advocates ONLY

Description:

During this foundational training, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how domestic violence affects children, families, and parenting. Practical tools and strategies for addressing the traumatic effects of domestic violence are explored as part of a resiliency-based framework. Participants are invited to apply this framework to enhance parent-child relationships, to foster positive outcomes for children and youth, and to support healing. This online training is designed for advocates, mental health counselors, and program supervisors working in community and residential domestic violence service programs. Advocates working primarily with children and families are encouraged to attend with their supervisors.

Objectives:

  • Understand how experiencing domestic violence may affect children’s well-being, safety, and development

  • Consider the effects of domestic violence on parenting and the caregiving environment

  • Learn strategies for how caregivers and DV program staff can support children’s healing from the traumatic effects of experiencing domestic violence

  • Apply a resiliency-based framework for supporting children, their caregivers, and family well-being.
